Kitchen Canister Sets
Many remember Mom’s kitchen and in that kitchen she always had a kitchen canister set.
During the mid nineteen fifties, a lady named Freda Diamond was the initiator of having the American manufactures
to let the homemakers have pretty kitchen canister sets. They did not come in many varieties then, most were made
of tin or glass, but they were pretty.
You would see kitchen canister sets in your friend’s house and your moms. Usually there were only three and
held, flour, sugar and coffee. Sometimes there would be one that held tea. Through the years many home décor
manufactures came on the band wagon and started making them in all different sizes, colors and materials. The
‘metal era’ of the fifties found pink chrome kitchen canister sets. The lettering was raised just a bit and it was
made of chrome as were the lids and the strip that goes around the canister. The coffee and tea canisters were
stacked on each other, measuring the same as the flour and sugar.
Tupperware was also a very popular kitchen canister sets. They came in all different colors and are still being
used today. Let’s face it, kitchen canister sets do add a lot to a kitchen. And it helps with the storage of sugar,
flour and coffee. They now come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. There is certainly and set out there that will go
great in any kitchen. Prices of kitchen canisters sets can range from five hundred dollars to twenty nine ninety
five. It all depends on what they are made of and what you can afford. Most of them will last a life time.
The most popular kitchen canisters sets are made my Pfaltzgraff, Oggi and Fiestaware just to mention a few.
These can be found at any good kitchen stores or department stores. Mid range kitchen canister sets, ones that are
not quite expensive would be Calphalon, Polder and All Clad. Some say these are the best. It all depends on your
tastes. Even Brylane have them.
One of the hardest things there is to do when buying kitchen canister sets is which one to buy, what color,
style and size. Once you have decided, it will more than likely be part of you, your personality will show. They
will accent your kitchen. There are some things to consider though. How much space will you have to display these
beauties? Remember they come in different sizes, so be sure you know how much room you have. If you do not have wee
little ones running around, you might want to think about stoneware or glass. Stoneware comes in many colors and
the glass ones show you how much food stuff is left. For those who have little ones, think about acrylic or
stainless steel. At least if they knock them over, they will not break.
Many now have all stainless steel appliances in their kitchens. Consider buying stainless steel kitchen canister
sets to match. Some do not like to match every thing so there you can buy ones that might be just a bit off with
the rest of your kitchen. If you live in the parts of the country that has high humidity think of getting them with
rubber seals on the rims so moisture can not get in and spoil the food.
